Another man in custody as police investigate

One man is dead and a woman seriously injured after a violent stabbing at a Surrey home early Friday morning.
Surrey RCMP, responding to a 911 call from a house in the 12800-block 99th Avenue, arrived at the home around 7 a.m. to find a deceased 33-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman bleeding from “substantial” stab wounds.
Police arrested a 54-year-old man found inside the home; he has not been charged.
Investigators were waiting to obtain a warrant to search inside the rental house on Friday afternoon.
“We are trying to see what the relationship is between the person we have in custody, the deceased and the injured person,” said Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. “We’re still trying to figure out what that triangle is.”
Neighbours say a man has been living in the house for about eight years. He has two sons, although they were unsure if they still lived in the house. An elderly woman, believed to be the man’s mother, moved in about a month ago.
The resident, believed to be in his ‘50s, is described as an unpredictable man with a temper and a drinking problem.
“He’s an alcoholic who comes out to his yard screaming at people,” said a neighbour who lived across the street.
There have also been previous incidents with guns, added the woman, who didn’t want to be identified.
Carr said police have been called to the house in the past.
The man remains in custody. The woman, who was transported to hospital, is expected to survive.
Homicide investigators said the incident does not appear linked to gangs, drugs, or organized crime.
An autopsy is scheduled for next week.
